I had a weird day today. First I woke up at 3am and couldn't get back to sleep. I left for work at 6:30 and one-stop before I get off, I felt myself drifting towards sleep. The rest of the day I was walking around in a haze. When I was coming home, I set the alarm on my cell phone just in case I drifted off again. As soon as I walked in my place, I took a one-hour power nap.
After the nap, I turned on my computer only to discover that my firewall program wasn't properly working. It kept saying that my subscription was over which isn't possible since it expires in April. After checking out the support site, I had to remove my firewall program and re-install it again and there it was, I had 132 days left on my subscription.
While at work I had to do some research on a variety of topics and since most of the people who read this blog are pet owners, I thought you would like to see what I found.
-More Americans own pets than ever before, and they're spending more money to keep them healthy. There are almost 10 million more cats than dogs in the USA.
-The number of U.S. households with pets is 59.5%; by comparison, about 35% of U.S. households have children.
-The top five states with pet-owning households: Vermont (74.5%), Idaho (73.4%), Oregon (73.1%), Wyoming (70.3%) and New Mexico (70.1%). New York ranks 48th.
-Although there are more pet cats than dogs, more families actually have dogs; by household, 37.2% are dog owners while 32.4% are with cats. But cat owners have more of them: 2.2 per house compared with 1.7 for dogs.

Thanks for the pet owner statistics. I know I'm one of the ones with more than one cat! It is kinda funny to know more people have pets than children. I wonder how the ages of the owners breaks down.
I hope you are enjoying your evening. Sorry to hear you are having trouble with your sleep. I hope it straightens out soon. *g*
Very interesting. I'm not a fan of cats at ALL. But I love dogs its nice to see that they rule in the household category. Who would of thought that Vermont had the highest owning pets of all the states? Not me.
btw I'm all for power naps. beams you up if you know what I mean.
ha!
Hey they are talking about me! I suppose with Knoel and ~Elmo weighing in at 37 pounds of cat combined, it's like having 2.2 cats. I'm not surprised VT has the highest number of pets - we certainly have room for them and studies show that having pets is healthy for mind and body. We VTers rank pretty high in that category as well. ...and noooo we don't count cows as pets...maybe a pig or two make the category but not cows.
Interesting pet statistics! Funny how more people have pets than kids. That would be me. If I had a pet, that is. :)
I can't believe NY is 48th on the list! I definitely fall into the category of spending more $$ on my pets' health than in the past...owning cats instead of dogs, and having pets rather than kids...
P.S. I saw your story section over at LASR today - cool!
