offensive

The cable company made me use offensive language in my thoughts. Here's how the day went: they were suppose to come between the hours of 8am to 11am.

Cable: 10:50a - The technicians are running late, they will be at your place by 12pm.
Me: 12:02pm - where are they?
Cable: they are 20 minutes from your location
Me: 12:30p - where are they?
(in the meantime, offensive words are flowing through my mind)
Cable: sorry, let me contact the dispatcher; they should be there in 15 minutes.
Me: If they were 20 minutes from my place, why are they now 45 minutes from my place.
Cable: sorry...
Me: 12:45p, where are they? I have to leave for work.
Cable: I haven't heard from the dispatcher yet
Me: I have to leave but will call you when I get to the office
Me: 3:39pm, what time did they knock on my door?

Cable: 2:02p
Me: so you mean I would have waited an additional 4 hours for someone to replace my cable wire?
Me: This is unacceptable, let me speak to your supervisor
Supervisor: I'm sorry, we can get someone to your place between 8am to 11am.
Me: I demand someone to come to my place at 8am on Saturday and I refuse to wait till 11a.
Supervisor: I guarantee that someone will be at your place if not the first appointment, but the second. Here is my name and badge number. And we will give you a credit on your account for the delay in service and any inconveniences you've experienced.
Me: Thank you and again I find this unacceptable especially since I became agitated and I had offensive thoughts in my head.
Supervisor: I'm sorry and please take a few minutes to answer our survey.

cable

Today was busy with meeting a deadline that was thrust upon me.

The cable guy is coming over to re-wire or as they say re-locate the cable tomorrow. I'm moving furniture (computer desk, TV, daybed, sewing machine) from one corner to the other, so they need to extend the cable and wrap around the baseboard. I could have done it myself, but once I calculated the cost of buying the cable wiring and then the cost of the cable company doing it, I saved five dollars going with the cable company. Besides, they would check to make sure everything works. They have to rewire my cable box and my phone and Internet access. So tonight or early tomorrow morning, I have to disconnect my TV and my computer and peripherals. I also have to empty the file cabinet so that it's easy to move across the room.

Then I have to rush to work to finish this deadline.

Don't cry, but they cancelled Simple Life with Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie.

bopping

I went to the movies and saw Hairspray. If you want to see a rip-roaring musical feast, head on to the theater. I was bopping my head and moving my body to the tunes. I already bought the soundtrack from iTunes. Hey, I got my first video on my iPod. It's the little things that make me happy.

Last night, me and a coworker met an ex-co-worker and went to Juniors (famous for their NY cheesecake) in midtown. It was fun catching up with old times, good times and new times. Two of use chowed down on chicken parmigiana and the third had hungarian beef goulash. For dessert, two of use had ice cream while the third had the famous cheesecake. A good time was had by all and we've decided that we will see a Broadway musical before the end of the year.

I wasn't able to walk because the humidity was stifling. Since I was indoors, I did the laundry and now I'm jamming to the Hairspray soundtrack (that's my exercise).

Since I've been on a reading frenzy lately, having just finished Last Whispers by Carlene Thompson, I now only have one book left that I haven't read.

I am expecting books; I have (Justice Denied by J.A. Jance, Step On A Crack by James Patterson and Beyond Reach by Karin Slaughter) on hold at the library and Body Movers: 2 Bodies For The Price Of 1 by Stephanie Bond, Oceans of Fire and Dangerous Tides by Christine Feehan that I bought.

So it's official, Aquafina and Dasani are made from tap water.

not much

I'm reading Safe Harbor by Christine Feehan and I'm enjoy this story of 7 sisters with magical powers. What is ironic is I don't like stories that involve witches, but this one I like. I guess because they are presented as women with paranormal skills...that I can handle. I plan to read the previous books.

I'm waiting patiently for Burn Notice to come on.

That's all from me. I hope everyone has a good Friday.

small words

I watched Eureka last night and I enjoyed it. Once I get to know the characters than it will be easy to figure out how they all connect. It sounds to me that Zoe matured with her father and I think it would be a mistake for her to go live with her mother. So, that Beverly person is a spy? Who was she spying for?

I also watched Damages...didn't like it.

CSI: They're looking for a new female character.

There was a farmer's market near my job and I bought some peaches, which was delicious. Ocean Spray was giving out free cranberry juice.

I liked working on the quilt that I just finished, so now I'm looking for more similar projects (designs). If I can find flowers, dogs or something fun, I will make the quilt.

eureka

It's an interesting show and I enjoyed this episode. So here are my questions...

Who's is Allison? What does she do?
Who's Henry? What does he do?
Who's Nathan?
Why was it snowing in one area; raining in another; and sunny in another?
Who's the young Black boy?
What kind of house is that where the sheriff lives?
The house talks? Okay, the house has a name?
so the sheriff and his daughter are the only "normal" ones?

so is Beverly the bad person?

just stuff

I had a busy day at the office today including creating questions for an upcoming survey and balancing the budget.

Watched The Closer last night and enjoyed the quirkiness of the episode. Sometimes you need a good laugh when watching a drama. I missed the last 30 minutes of Saving Grace. I was sitting in my recliner and the next thing I knew it was past midnight. Tonight I'll watch Eureka and if I have any questions about who's who, I'll let you know.

My VCR died and that is leaning me towards getting my cable's company DVR (similar to Tivo).
I just have to find the time to go over and pick up the machine.

I just realized in 4 weeks, I'm finally going to see Jersey Boys on Broadway. I've had these tickets since August of 2006.

babble

It rained. It poured. I didn't get drench. It was also chilly to the point where I had a mug of hot chocolate.

Heard some disturbing news regarding a book that I had planned to buy.

On the TV front: the romance between Gissom and Sara on CSI will come to an end. YAY. If only her character would do the same. For those who watch Without A Trace, Samantha (Poppy Montgomery) is pregnant in real-life and her character will be too. I wonder who the father will be.

I finished Up Close and Dangerous by Linda Howard. It was a good book. The mystery was good and the romance was okay although not as sensual as her other titles.

summer breeze

The song was flowing through my mind because we are currently enjoying a nice summer breeze. I took another 1.5 mile stroll, then came home and had a lazy day of watching TV, listening to music and reading my book.

Ever seen the movie Birds? You know that scene where all the birds were sitting in the park and watching. Well, that's what I faced when I walked out of my place this morning. Loads of birds lined up sitting watching me go by. I quickly went across the street and just felt that they were watching and laughing at me. I think they saw Birds too.

I finished Foul Play by Tori Carrington and I enjoyed the third in a continuing series featuring Sofie Metropolis. It was a good story and an awakening for our heroine.

rambling

Here are the two wall-hanging quilts....the differences are the red pattern, the quilt stitch and the size..one is slightly larger than the other. Remember, this was suppose to be one quilt as a birthday gift, but when I put the one piece together, the dimensions were not what I expected thus it became two mini-quilt. Also, I didn't expect to finish it fast, since when I read the directions for it and cut the pieces, it looked complicated. This was a fun pattern to put together and was surprised at how the quilt developed. Once I figure out how to make the dimensions smaller (I have to multiply by fractions), then I'll try it again.

Went to the library and picked up Foul Play by Tori Carrington and Up Close and Dangerous by by Linda Howard. The reason I couldn't decide what to read last night was because I've been waiting to read Foul Play and I knew that if I picked it up, I planned to read it first. I like to read the library books first so that I can return it quickly and give others a chance to read the books. The books I purchase can be read anytime.

I took a 1.5 mile stroll. They are a music festival featuring alternative-minded bands. Stayed for awhile but it got immensely crowded for my taste.

Is Eureka a continuous program? Meaning do you have to watch from the first show to know what's going on or does it begin and end during the hour showing?

TV

Did you watch Burn Notice last night? I love this show. The dynamics of Michael's family and his friend keeps me tuned in every Thursday. I also watched Don't Forget the Lyrics! last night as well. It was fun singing karaoke and then trying to remember the other words.

I heard that Geena Davis will join the cast of Criminal Mind. I'm not a Geena Davis fan so I'm hoping this is just a rumor. I also heard that Sara on CSI is only appearing in 5 episodes..this I hope is fact.

I finished the two wall-hanging quilts. They both came out nice and it's the first time that I worked on two quilt simultaneously. I'll post the pictures tomorrow.

I got my book deliveries today. I got And Murder for Dessert by Kathleen Delaney, Last Whisper by Carlene Thompson, The Ever-Running Man by Marcia Muller and

explosion

oh my...

I met a friend and we headed to B&N to pick up some books. We had a good time and then we stepped outside and I mentioned to my friend that I felt the ground moving. Then we started walking toward Grand Central and we heard a boom. I look at her, she looked at me and we both said "see ya". All I wanted to do was get on a train, before they stop the train, and head home. We both made it home safely and then I put on the news to check what that boom was.

I love my recliner and yesterday I was reading with the chair in the reclining position and fell asleep.

I don't there will be much on TV tonight since most of the channel have the explosion on. I don't think there's much on the cable channels that I'm interested in watching.

I may start watching Eureka. In a nutshell, what is Eureka about?

My recliners came a little after 3pm. The one is the bedroom is situated just right. I just have to figure the best place for it in the living room. It' snothing fancy but the recliner will do the job.

I worked on the two mini-quilts. I tried a new technique I read about and I'm liking the results. I made the label and put Friday's date on it so I better get back to finishing them.

home

I'm home sick. Woke up earlier freezing with chills. Took some blankets and sweat whatever was in me and then felt so tired, it was useless to go into work. So all the things I didn't do yesterday like clean my place and do laundry, I did this morning. I called maintenance to re-grout my bathroom wall tiles. I called the building to let them know that I'm expecting a furniture delivery. The building puts pads on the elevators. Of course, I'm waiting for the store to call me to tell what time to expect my delivery.

You know those new scriggly-type eco light bulbs everyone is saying to get? Well, I decided to buy one for my clip-on lamp. When I screwed the scriggly bulb in to the socket, I heard a pop and it smashed to pieces. I don't think I was rough screwing it in. Now I wonder, do I buy another one?

Oh a funny...I more or less figured out how to use certain features on the new phone. The only one I couldn't get was how do I re-listen to my answering machine messages. Every time I pressed "play/stop"...it would tell me that I had no new messages. My thoughts are saying but I don't want to listen to new messages, I want to hear the old ones. For the life of me, I couldn't figure it out. Then I went looking for the manual..yeah, like I know where I put it. I went on the Internet and found the manual and duh, all I had to do was hold the "play/stop" button and I'm able to hear my old messages. Why do they make simple things complicated.

caught

Two weeks ago I found a charge that I didn't make, on my credit card and when I called the vendor, they could see the charge, but couldn't tell me what the charge was for. The vendor told me that perhaps it was an error and will be corrected by them. I just got my statement and guess what charge is posted? In fact, there were two additional charges made to this vendor that was posted two days ago and since I didn't make any purchases with this card, I knew immediately that something was amiss. I then called the credit card company and told them of the discrepancy and my account was instantly closed. I'm glad I caught these charges. Now my big question is if I notified the vendor about this fraudulent charge, why wasn't it flagged when the charge appeared again?

I am now creating two semi-identical mini-quilts or wall-hanging. That will depend on the finished product, but I'm leaning towards them becoming wall-hanging. I didn't expect this quilt to be easy, so the person I originally made it for, will get it sooner rather than later and the second person, I hope will be surprised. I do know if I use this pattern again, I have to modify the dimensions. I never tell the recipient about a quilt because first, I like to surprise them and second the quilt may not be them. It's a creative thing.

I was reading earlier when I heard drums coming from downstairs. When I looked out my windows, I saw a group of people in flowing outfits with flowers in their hair. I went downstairs and discovered the dance troupe, PURE (Public Urban Ritual Experiment) was rehearsing their act. The type of dance routines they were doing was middle eastern. I sat for their entire rehearsal and then was told that we saw their entire performance. Kewl.

gathering

I went to a birthday gathering for a co-worker this past evening. While this may not seem unusual, for me it it. I don't like to attend social gathering. I'm very awkward in crowds even if I know people. I'm the one that you see in the corner watching people get happy, drunk and downright silly. But don't be fooled by me sitting in the corner, because I'm actually having a good time. Suffice to say, I had a good time. Featured at this gathering was a comedian who had the audience laughing with his jokes and antics and a women with her musical instrument who sung comical tunes while playing her string instrument. She was a hoot and encourage us to sing along to one of the last songs she performed. The people were fun and the food delicious and we had a beautiful night.

I love people watching, but on the subway it's not a good idea because you're in an enclosed placed trapped underground and you start staring at one person and oops, they felt you staring and stare back and now what to do. When you people watch outdoors...people are coming and going and don't know you're doing it.

thoughts

What a beautiful spring like day it was. There was no humidity in sight. It felt so good to get out and I was able to take a one-mile stroll.

I picked up High Noon by Nora Roberts and Safe Harbor by Christine Feehan at Barnes & Noble. I had to use my coupon and my gift cards for these purchases.

I screwed up the quilt that I'm working on. I miscalculated the dimensions so now the one quilt that I'm creating actually will be two separate quilts. If there's a way for me to salvage what I'm doing, I will try. I can't take it apart because the fabric pieces then becomes useless. If not, two people will hopefully enjoy the mini-quilts.

for blogs are hard to come up with everyday.

Lady Bird Johnson passed away today at the age of 94. An actor named Charles Lane also passed away.

How lucky am I. As soon as I walked in my building complex, the skies opened up with a loud boom followed by lightening. Everyone else was scrambling across various streets to get to their building. Some even waited in our lobby hoping the rain will stop.

Thanks everyone. I'm feeling much better. Having a migraine attack can be so unbearable that all I want to do is sit in a dark room alone. Unfortunately life goes on and I need to work and be apart of it. I've learned to cope with it by looking at alternative solutions.

before the heat

Today is going to be a "do what I have to do today" because tomorrow, the heat and humidity returns. We're getting the heat wave that is out west now.

So, today I took a nice 2-mile stroll. Returned and picked up books at the library. Went food shopping. Ran into my neighbor. They are a lovely couple. Every time she sees me, she turns to her husband and says "there's your girlfriend". I found a mop: O-Cedar Twist 'N Mop® Cotton Self-Twisting Mop. I'm still looking for a straw broom, but may have a lead on a place where I can buy one.

I also got rid of more junk that were on top shelves in my bedroom closets. So now the top shelf is empty and besides it was hard to reach. The next space to tackle will be the hall and the linen closet.

random thoughts

This was not a good day. First I woke up at 3am and couldn't get back to sleep. I wished I had my recliner because I could have sat in it and read and hopefully fall back to sleep. Then, I had to take Excedrin because I had this wicked headache. Then I had to open my window because the air and my nose was stuffed. (I don't like sleeping with the A/C on at night - I did have the air purifier running on low though). Because of the early wake-up, I had to set the alarm just in case I fell asleep and sleep beyond my body wake-up time. No need to worry...probably slept for 30 minutes and was up by 4:30a.

Went to work and arrived at an empty office. No one was there. The lights were off. It was spooky. For a while I heard the Twilight Zone music in my head trying to figure out where did everyone go. Hmm, was the office closed and no one told me? After sitting at my desk for 45 minutes, finally someone walked past my cubicle. I had a sense of relief that someone else was in the office as well.

I checked out a couple of stores for dining room sets and didn't find any to my liking. While I was downtown, I stopped in the quilt shop and made a couple of fabric purchases. I found a new quilt design that would be perfect for a wall-hanging idea that I have, so I plan to work on that soon.

My books that I ordered were delivered: Simon Says by Lori Foster, Your Mouth Drives Me Crazy by HelenKay Dimon, No Regrets by Shannon K Butcher and Kiss Me Deadly by Susan Kearney. Tomorrow I pick up from the library: Dirty Martini by J.A. Konrath and Family Honor by Robert B. Parker.

just words

For all readers and even those who don't read but may have friends who do read...Buy A Friend A Book Week!

From Marianne's blog....

"Starting TODAY and running through next Thursday, July 12, 2007 I am running a contest for a $5.00 gift certificate to The Wild Rose Press -- enough to buy a full length novel in eBook format, or to put toward a print book if you so choose. There are some really amazing books available over there. So many, you may have trouble choosing."

Going to work was weird especially after a one-day holiday. The subway and the streets were empty. Those who took the rest of the week off got a 5-day weekend.

I went shopping looking for a casual dining room set. There are not a lot of furniture stores here and the quality of the material is lacking in my opinion. I didn't have any luck in finding what I want. Most of the dining room sets that I saw were longer than the space I have and some even had leaves that would make it even longer. All I need is a small or medium-size casual kitchen table with 4 chairs. This weekend, I'll check other places in my neighborhood.

Independence Day

The Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest was a blast to attend. The belt has been returned to America. Joey Chestnut from California has won the contest by eating 66 hot dogs in 12 minutes. The crowd was exhilarating. The crowd was boisterous. The crowd chanted "Joey" to egged him on and the contest got down to the wire where the judges had to confer amongst each other and the audience waited with bated breath to see who has finally won the contest. When the announcer said the second place winner was Kobayashii, we knew that the mustard yellow championship belt was coming back to America and the crowd changed U.S.A., U.S.A.

The last two times I've attended this event, it was blistering hot but today, we had a cool summer breeze.

Can you believe that there are contractors next door to me making a racket on this our, Independence Day? My building complex said they are not suppose to be doing any home improvements today, but they are with intermittent drilling and/or sawing and hammering. I've have tried to find security, but I'm not having any luck. I'm going to try again.

Later, I'll watch the fireworks on TV.

I hope everyone celebrating is having a wonderful July 4th.

good buy

Today was productive. It was a nice and the temperature hoovered in the 70s. It felt like Spring, so I walked from the office to 34th Street and enjoyed the sights of the city and the people rushing home to get an early start on the holiday.

I was finally able to get to the store and purchased not one but two wall-saver recliners. They were out of stock of the other colors and the only ones left was kangaroo (light tan). I saved a total of $300 for both recliners, not a bad purchase. The recliner is on back order which is a good thing since there's no rush. I then went looking for handbags but couldn't find anything that I liked.

Sunday stuff

I didn't do much today. I took a stroll; did laundry; went food shopping and bought a telephone.

The answering machine on the old one wouldn't record messages and the light indicator wouldn't show that I had a message. I was looking for a corded phone, but there's not a lot of Caller ID / Call Waiting / Speakerphone corded telephones out there. Everything is cordless with or with expandable handsets. I had a cordless phone before, but I had problems holding it, it could have been the design, but my arms / hand / shoulder would hurt after 15 minutes talking on it, so I stick with corded phones.

I've been looking at recliners. I need one so that I have a comfy place to sit and read, especially away from the computer. I tend to multi-task when I read, the computer will be on and the TV. The TV is sometimes background noise. I saw one on sale and hopefully they'll have some in stock when I go to the store.
