It's raining. Big drops of rain. Rain. Again.
My doctor's appointment went well with just a minor discovery. Further exams are necessary. Otherwise, I'm doing good. I've had my blood pressure taken 4 times this past month and the good news is that they've been normal readings. I lost another pound. In the past two weeks, I haven't had take-out. Most of the meals except lunch have been eaten at home. If I can continue this and lose more weight, perhaps I won't have to continue taking the high blood pressure pills.
The creative forces are flowing and I came up with a wonderful tribute to someone who recently lost a friend. I am making a memory pillow and I already printed out the images on the fabric paper and I know which fabric I will be using.
June reading round-up: This month I've read 25 books and discovered 4 new-to-me authors: Kyra Davis, Beth Groundwater, Mary Jane Maffini and Elizabeth Sims. I've read the following types of books: 12 mysteries, 6 romantic suspense, 6 thriller and 1 romance.
On this day in 1936, Margaret Mitchell’s book Gone with the Wind was published in New York City.

not much
I'm late. Not much going on. I was busy during the day and then had to rush to the doctor's office. I was given the wrong address so after walking up and down the block, call the office and got the correct address and directions to the place.

stuff
I'm sitting on the terrace while I'm typing this. You gotta love wireless and the Internet.
Two days in a row we had sun. Tonight rain is predicted.
I've been looking for a book shelf audio system and most stores sell home theater systems which is not what I want. So, finally I found one that I liked in one of the local audio stores but their price was over the actual manufacturer's price which I think is illegal. So you know where I headed next, yep, Amazon had it for less than the manufacturer's price and they would deliver it in two days. It's the perfect system for me, it has AM/FM tuner, single CD player (which I rarely use) and it can play my iPod. It fits perfectly in the space below my TV cart.
You know how you can tell if a major holiday is coming up? Look at the sales in the grocery stores: hot dogs, hamburgers, rolls, mustard, paper plates, plastic cups, napkins, barbecue sauce, plastic utensils, juice boxes, etc.

RIP
Rest in peace *dad (what I called my adopted dad)
Rest in peace Farrah Fawcett
Rest in peace Michael Jackson, the boy who in my childhood I had "married"
This is how I heard the news:
I was on my way to my adopted dad's wake when my oldest nephew called and asked if I was sitting down. I told him yes and he told me Michael Jackson had died. I hung up the phone crying and immediately called my sister who told my youngest nephew to turn on the TV where he told me that MJ was in the hospital. I called oldest nephew and told him never lie like that to me again.
I'm eating dinner before we go to the funeral home and my friend's husband tells me to come in the living room and see something. I go in and there on TV is the news I did not want to hear or see. He has died. Tears flowed. When I got to the wake and the foreign legionnaires played taps for my *dad, I cried not only for him, but for MJ. On the 2-hour bus and subway ride home, I cried for Michael Jackson. I still can't believe it. We were the same age. He's not supposed to go now. God wanted him and I hope he is at peace. This weekend it will be all Michael Jackson in music and in video for me. I'm going to remember the boy and young adult of my childhood and young adult years because every song he performed had a meaning to me.
The two most important songs are "Looking Through the Window" because that is the song that I heard when I was told my beloved uncle had died and "Maybe Tomorrow" because the words were inspiration for me during trying times.

Shot Award
Thanks Anne-Kathrine for the award. My blog received the "Shot" award. The meaning of this award is that this blog is worthy of being photographed. The rules for this award are:
Post the badge on your blog and link to who gave it to you. Choose five life situations that could be repeated in slow motion and explain why. Tag a dozen blogs and let them know it.
My five life situations I would choose to repeat are...
- The day I graduated from college because I was the first in my family to attain a college degree and that was the first time I saw my mother cry.
- The day I held my youngest niece who was only 4 days old; in the past I would not hold a baby until it was at least 6 months old.
- The day I got on a cruise ship with all my friends surrounding me because they knew of my intense fear of water.
- The day the plane landed Charles de Gaulle International Airport on my first international trip to Europe.
- The day I saw my youngest sister graduate from college because she was the one I groomed for something special in this world and she had made me proud of her accomplishments.
I'm not going to tag any blogs but anyone who read my blog on a daily basis is given this award.
Sad news: my girlfriend's dad who "adopted" me has passed away this morning.

20 days
20 days of rain out of the last 23 days. When is it going to stop?
Today I went to a wellness fair and got my blood pressure checked (124/86) and my posture checked. The doctor said my right hip and my left hip were slightly misaligned. Strenuous stretching and walking should help in aligning both hips. We also got a free gift pack: mandarin-Ginger aloe lotion, spa rock, zen scented votive, lemon ginger green tea and ginger ginseng tea.

summer
Summer is here and the outdoor promotions, in other words freebies, have begun.
In Rockefeller Center they built a grass tennis court similar to the one at Wimbledon. You can play on the court and in another section you can watch the games live from England. Today they were giving out free strawberries and cream in a cute little container. I'm not a fan of strawberries, but the ones I ate were sweet and delicious.
I got my Ruffles have ridges potato chips without having to order a case from Amazon. My friend orders from Fresh Direct and they had it online. It's the original flavor that I cannot find in my local stores.
Yesterday I bought panels for my living room window, but they were too long and blocked the air from outside. So I did what any seamstress would do, I cut the excess material, ironed a bottom hem and then machine-stitched the hem and it came out okay. It's hard sewing sheers. You can see how long the panel was by looking at the terrace door (surrounded by blue panel) and to the right of the TV is the shortened panel to fit the window.

donation
Left finger pricked - blood count is at 12.4. Need 12.5 to donate blood.
Right finger pricked - blood count is 13.1. Can donate blood.
Blood pressure is 120/86 - not bad of course it's 8:30 in the morning.
Two other co-workers came behind me and I enter the blood donation room first. I let the blood person know that it's difficult to find my vein. She asks which arm, but I don't recall. She looks at my arm and says I can see where you donated before - the right arm..makes since since the right finger had a good blood count. After she finds the vein which she tells me is in a sensitive place and she has to be careful when getting it, she's successful on the very first try and I lay there while the bag fills up. My other two co-workers have been hooked up after me and they both finished filling up the bag before me. The blood person had to put pressure on the needle and my vein to get that last drop of blood to fill the bag.
The sun came out this morning, but as I type this, the skies are very cloudy.
Tomorrow is circus day and I'm excited and ready for my adventure.

rain, again
I just learned that my provider does not carry the Lifetime Movie Channel and there a new mystery series airing that I would have loved to see.
Of the past 18 days, we only had 4 days of sunshine. 4. Days. of. Sunshine. Enough with this rain. I banish thee from the month of June.
I had to reset the recording and add extra minutes and I hope it stays set. The last time I tried to add additional minutes to the DVR recordings, it didn't work.

the sun came out today
The sun finally decided to show its face and it was good for the time it lasted. It got a bit chilly here, but that's okay, the sun was out and no rain was predicted. Of course rain is predicted for the day that I go to the circus. I'm getting excited. I can't wait to see as much as I can see.
My cable company's timer and the network's timer are not in sync. My machine didn't record the last 2 minutes of Burn Notice and The Closer.

rambling
Nothing much going on. We're still experiencing cloudy skies and rain. The sun sometimes peek out but it always goes away.
I spent another hour on the phone with tech support and I think my problem has been resolved.
Last night I went to see "The Wiz" on off-Broadway. I first saw the original production many, many years ago where it won seven Tony Awards. It was a thrill to see it again with a different cast and updated stage production. The music was the same as I originally heard and performed with gusto that I was air singing along with them to each and every song. The Wiz is based on The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum.

Frank Baum.

less is better
Nothing much to say. Thanks everyone for your concern. The Benadryl seems to be working, I'm less red than I was yesterday. The second circus tent and the signage are up. I sat on a bench facing the ocean and became fascinated at a slow-moving tugboat pulling a barge.

I'm noticing that I'm becoming less tolerable about certain things: loud noises, large crowds, screaming idiots and people unnecessarily blowing their darn car horn when it's not going to move the large truck that can't move until the vehicle in front of them moves.
oh guess what, I tried on a pair of pants that I couldn't get pass my hips before and woo hoo, I can zip them, this despite being a bit snug in the waist. I'm hoping by end of month, they will fit just fine.

red
I'm still working with Dell to solve my problem. We did get the machine to finally acknowledge that I had 2 Gig of Ram in the computer's memory. I was on the phone with tech support for 2.5 hours and still the main issue has not be fixed. Tech support kept mentioning the motherboard.
Yesterday I didn't post because of the following: I went out to lunch at a local Chinese Restaurant. Normally I get a certain dish, but this time I chose to select another dish that I've had before at this place. When the meal was delivered I ate it but not like I have before. Later I return home and decided to eat a baked potato. I sat down and ate one forkful when I suddenly felt that I couldn't eat anymore. Suffice is to say that everything that I ate prior came back up. Then I got the chills. Then I couldn't breathe. Then I noticed my face was red, literally red. Then dry heaves. So I did what any person would do when sick, I called my mom who told me to take my temperature. I was telling her that I'm going to die and I probably have swine flu. My temperature was normal and I felt relieved. My face was still red and I couldn't hold anything down. Ginger ale, came back up. Water, came back up. I didn't go to bed until I was safely sure that nothing was going to come up (I waited an hour). As I type this, my face is still red, but not so red. I think I had an allergic reaction to something I ate at the Chinese Restaurant.

Damp Apple
What a dull and dreary day here. The title tells you what we should be called.
I got my new 1gig memory stick and following instructions I put the new ones in and I think I notice a speed change. However, when I check to see if my compute recognizes 2gig, it doesn't. The customer service rep told me to call her on her direct line and she would continue fixing one other thing, but I haven't heard from her yet.
After a year's search, I finally found an gyn. I have an appointment in two weeks. He was recommended to me by a co-worker and he is also affiliated with the hospital that I prefer if I'm having an operational procedures.
I'm blaming Tori if I buy that case of Ruffles, something that I can't find locally.
I maybe going to see Paul McCartney when he plays at Citi Field in July.

computer woes
I'm tired. I spent 2 hours on the phone with Dell. My computer has become a bit sluggish and when I checked the memory, my machine was missing 1 gig. I looked at my receipt and sure enough I had order a computer with 2Gigs. After taking apart the computer, it was concluded that my machine is not registering the 2 gigs and I did see both 1gig modules. Sometime this week, they will ship me 2 gig modules that I have to place in the computer.
Did anyone watch the Tony Awards? I enjoyed what I saw but fell asleep before the ending. Luckily I taped it.

the circus is coming
I saw it. The telltale sign that the circus was coming. Yesterday they raised the tent and today they are still assembling it. The circus is coming to town and I can't wait.
I re-arranged my sewing area again for better movement between the sewing machine and the cutting table. I actually like it because now my fabric file is in-sight now under the sewing machine table.
I like the new show Royal Pains on USA Network.
Thanks Brandy for the "One Lovely Blog Award"

recuperating
I'm home. Things didn't go as planned with the prep. First my last meal was on lunch on Wednesday, so I had no other food since then. I had to drink a 64oz liquid mixture - 8oz every 15 minutes and I did this with no major problem except my stomach was getting fuller as I drank.
Within the next two hours - I regurgitated half of what I drank and was afraid the procedure wouldn't be done, but I think the not eating for 1.5 days may have saved me. The actual procedure took 20 minutes but waking up from the anesthesia and then being alert to leave took an extra 30-45 minutes. We were offered cheese peanut butter crackers, pound cake, chocolate chip cookies, tea, coffee and water. I took the crackers and cookies and had a couple of sips of water. I had to wait for the doctor and then all I wanted to do was come home. Everything was okay and I don't have to do this procedure until another five years.
Thanks HN for coming with me.
Now I feel bloated and a bit tired, but I'm alert. I want to read, but every time I pick up the book, my eyes closes. I think today is going to be a lazy day with the TV running in the background. Thank goodness for the 3-day Burn Notice marathons, because that's what I have running.
Thanks everyone for the good wishes and thoughts.

pre-prep
I'm still relishing the good times that I had last night.
Tomorrow I have to do prep for my upcoming out-patient procedure. I will be on a liquid diet, eating no solid foods. I can drink water, apple juice, tea, ginger ale, white grape juice and clear broth. I can not have milk or milk products or juice with pulp and my last drink must be at 8pm.
I enjoyed the interviewed I listened to on iTunes between Alafair Burke and Philip Margolin. If you like listening to a variety of author interviews, Top Shelf on Blog Talk Radio.
I went to the quilt shop after work to buy fabric for the backing of the quilt that I'm working on. I knew that I wanted it to be a blue background, but there's so many blue fabric patterns to choose from. I really wanted a solid color but something patterny, so I found two shades of blue, one similar to teal and the other similar to royal blue. I played with how they look against the quilt top and decided that the royal blue would enhance it better.

Book Signing
I had a great evening!
Normally when I travel in the city, I take the train because it will get me there faster. This time I had an hour to kill so I decided to take the scenic route by taking a bus from midtown to the financial district. I liked seeing how the city flows from a tourist area, to the hustle and bustle of people trying to get home to the village to my final destination. I didn't know where The Mysterious Bookshop was so I asked a cop and he got out his phone gps and told me which way to go.
I arrived at the bookstore and saw the author sitting in a chair. There was a couple of people there and as shy as I am, I stayed to the side and just watched. Lisa Unger came up to me and introduced herself and when I told her my name, she recognized it from Facebook. That put the biggest smile (grin) on my face. Then I was talking to her literary agent for a few minutes before I grabbed her book, Die For You, which was released today and purchased it. There was wine and cheese which I sampled and then spoke to one of the book shop workers.
Later as the crowd came in, Lisa introduced me to her husband as her "Facebook Friend", again, another smile got plastered on my face. It was time for the question and answer event and during one of the questions, Lisa responded how she uses twitter and Facebook and she inquired if her "Facebook Friend" was still at the event, and then I let her see me and said yes. Another smile. I had a great time and when Lisa autographed my book, she already knew how to spell my unusual first name. How cool is that! For a shy person who wavered back and forth about going, I had such a wonderful time.
