OMG, don't ever deal with one of those subscription places. I got free magazine subscriptions for 3 months and I wanted to cancel them before the fourth month which I'll be billed for them. The aggravation I felt in cancelling each one individually (because the service could only do one at a time) through an automated service was nerve wracking. Eventually I hit zero and then I still had to deal with the automated voice before and then I started screaming at the automated voice and nearly slammed the phone down when I got an actual human person. Never again.
I finally found a mop that I've been looking for locally. All I wanted was a mop where I wouldn't have to bend down and put my hands in the dirty water and wring the mop dry. I found the Casabella Wring Leader Cotton Mop and also bought a refill because I know if I go back to the store, they will not have any refills. I'm not liking the mop but it will do for now.
You know when you're in pain and you learn to tolerate it until you get a diagnosis. How come once you get that diagnosis, the pain intensifies? Lately my fingers and forearm has been bothering me more so than before. Interesting.
When I called the hand surgeon's office this morning, they were just now receiving the results from the EMG. The office called later in the day and they want to see me to discuss the results. My appointment is next week. I still have not found the elbow splint locally and since my appointment is next week, I'll wait before I make a purchase or perhaps the doctor will supply me with one.
Most of the quilt at the show were considered "quilt art".

home again
I'm home from a great trip in Vermont. As I mentioned earlier, the quilt show was awesome. The company was great. The food was great. Just being in Vermont was great..a nice pace away from the city.
Click here for pictures from the quilt festival that I attended in Essex Junction, Vermont. Click on "View Album As Guest".
I just read that Chris Noth from Criminal Intent will not be on the show next season. Jeff Goldblum will be the new detective. I'm not a fan of Jeff, so I'll probably not watch those particular episodes.

from Vermont
I'm writing from almost sunny Vermont, being that it's only a little after 7 in the morning.
The quilt festival that we attended yesterday was awesome. I'm a mere baby in my skills next to those professional but it did me a wonder of good and excitement when I saw handmade quilt with not so straight stitching (something that I struggle with). I saw a quilt that was over 150 years old with crooked lines. In most cases we were not allowed to take photos, but the ones that I did, I will share some when I get home. I got some good ideas on patterns and color. Oh I saw a quilt that featured the players of the NY Yankees. I don't know if the picture came out but I did zoom on Jeter.
After that Fran and I spent the day gabbing and enjoying the delicious angel food cake.

just another day
I haven't heard from the hand doctor yet. My goal is to avoid surgery is possible. I'm hoping physical therapy will alleviate any discomfort.
I was getting the blue screen of death when I would shut down my computer. Three times it has happened so I had to do an Internet search to see what the cause of it. Finally, it was my video card so I had to uninstall the graphics drivers, then I did another cleanup to get missed files and then downloaded a newer version of the graphics drivers. Let's hope the blue screen of death doesn't come back again.
All I did was change the drivers and I couldn't get an IP address to connect to the network. It took me forever and I kept pinging but nothing was happening. Finally after clicking repair network connection several times, I got my wireless back.
Because of the many new travel restrictions, I will not be bringing my laptop with me on my trip up north. I'll post if I can, if not, I'll see you guys on Sunday.

after the exam
It's official. Confirmed by the results of the nerve conduction study which are: electromyography (EMG) which tests the electrical activity of muscles and another test that measures the conducting function of nerves. I have cubital tunnel syndrome. The doctor has to write up his finding and recommendations and send it to my hand orthopedic surgeon.
The exam took 30 minutes. A small electrode was taped to my left hand and was never removed. Then he put another rectangular-shaped electrode on the palm side of my left hand and then using a taser-like equipment I felt a mild shock that made me jump out of my skin. After the third such shock, I got used to it. Then he took electrode off the left palm and put it on the right palm to compare and omg, I saw the huge difference in the nerve activity. Without an electrode, he used the taser-like equipment on both my elbows. Then he put a ring-shaped electrode on both my thumbs and pinkie fingers and I was just amazed at the nerve activity of the problem hand. All in all the exam was painless except for the jolts by the electroshock treatment. He also measured the distance between my wrist and fingers, my wrist and elbow and my elbow to my hand.
Brandy, now that I know the exact name of the exam, I found the information I was looking for.
Melissa, I bet hubby is now thrilled about the number of pictures one little card can take.
Marianne, thanks. The digital era makes things more efficient with less waste. I can recall taking a roll of film, having it developed and having only 5 usable pictures out of 36. Now, that can never happen. So far, I'm loving this book. I would definitely recommend it.
Devon, yep, 6,000 pictures. If I use the highest resolution I get 999 pictures.
Tori, thanks. I got there early to fill out the papers and I was taken immediately. It went well.
Jen, June has not been a kind month for celebrities. A lot of deaths have occurred
Amy, the test went okay. Now I just have to wait for the surgeon to call me.

monday monday
Today felt like the end of the week. A lot of things are happening at the job that doesn't directly affect me.
I was trying to find information on nerve compression tests and despite finding a couple of article, I couldn't find anything that told me exactly what is done. Oh well, I'll find out tomorrow.
I just got my new media card for the camera and it can take over 6,000 pictures if I lower the resolution.
I will miss George Carlin's comedic take on life. Dody Goodman, actress appeared in Grease, Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman, among other shows has passed at 93.

accomplished
Thanks to Amy, I now have a new way to pack my suitcase. Normally I would have mounds of clothes in which I'll have to make everything fit. In the end I would take one less top or slacks and if that didn't work, I would then sit on the suitcase to get the air out. Now I have room to include slippers, my toiletries and still have extra space. I never had this much room in my suitcase before.
Fran, I'm looking forward to attending my first ever quilt show.
Brandy, I'm having fun discovering all the new things with the camera. I just discovered that I can load my pictures to my computer without installing the software that came with the camera.
Tori, I think brick and mortar retailers should worry because pretty soon, no one will go to a store, they'll just shop online, especially when stores don't carry items in stock.
Marianne/Jen, I couldn't do the wrap so tried to sleep with my arm straight down my side or across the bed. I know at some point during my sleep my elbow was bent.
Amy, I hope I don't need the splint as well.

a good day
First I helped my friend install her wireless network. She and her husband are technophobes and both were scared to disconnect cables from their computer. After getting everything up and running I then showed them how to save files to folders so that all the work that they do is in one place, not all over where they can't find the file they're looking for. I think they are more confident in their computer skills than before and will do okay.
You have to love a store where you can order the item online and pick it up after 24 minutes. It took me an hour to get there, but it was there when I walked up to customer service. In my search for a camera, I wanted to keep the same brand since I had several media cards for it, so I got an Olympus FE-340 and I like the weight and slimness of it. Oh, the camera takes movies, how cool is that?
Next I went to several medical supply store looking for an elbow splint and none of them had any on site. Do you know where I did find an elbow splint? Yes, you guess it, Amazon.com. I didn't order it because I want to wait till after I get my nerve compression exam on Tuesday before I make any purchases. Tonight I'm going to make another attempt at the towel wrapped around the elbow, but it is difficult to do on oneself.
Brandy, I tried straps, belts and it is just difficult to wrap with one hand, especially my weak hand, since my right is the dominate one.
Tori, I hear you. Perhaps they assume that there's someone else there to help with the wrapping.

I finished Fran's pillow. Now I get to work on my twin pillow set.

what a day
okay so last night I tried to wrap a throw pillow on my arm and I had no such luck. I couldn't get the strap around the pillow around my arm.
Then after intensive Internet searches, I saw that I could wrap a thick towel around my elbow area and tape it up. Do you know how difficult it is to wrap a towel around your arm and tape it. I couldn't do this at all. So I slept with my right arm down my side, rather uncomfortable, but I did get use to it.
I had an accident. I was taking pictures and because it was in my right hand, I lost my grip and dropped my camera. The LCD screen is cracked and the lens won't protrude from the base. I had the camera 4 years now; warranty is expired and when I called for an estimate and it would cost more money to repair it than to buy a new one. I've been searching on the Internet looking at cameras and I think I found one that I like.
This morning I was trying to find an outlet to plug in my iron when I realized that I had 3 surge protectors that weren't being used efficiently. So there I was on my knees under my computer desk, behind the TV stand and under my sewing table switching the surge protectors all, while wearing my work clothes. I planned on leaving it like that until I got home from work, but it was nagging me to do the switch. After being on the floor I stood up covered in dust. So then I just had to take the swiffer and do a clean sweep.

doctor visit
I finally had my appointment with the hand orthopedic surgeon. I filled out the necessary forms and then after the initial consultation, my wrist and forearms were x-rayed. When the doctor came into the room, we did some more exercise and he concluded that I have cubital tunnel syndrome. Cubital tunnel syndrome is the effect of pressure on the ulnar nerve, one of the main nerves of the hand. It can result in a variety of problems, including pain, swelling, weakness or clumsiness of the hand and tingling or numbness of the ring and small fingers.
The next step is to see another doctor and get a nerve compression exam. In the meantime the doctor told me to wrap a pillow on my elbow which will keep my arm straight while sleeping.
I finished SOS Marry Me by Melissa McClone and I loved it. If you get a chance, you should definitely read this book.

the day after
Did anyone watch the Tony's Award? I definitely enjoyed it on Sunday. It was fun seeing snippets of old shows and since I'm a musical kind of gal, I enjoyed all the musical performances. I'm definitely getting tickets to Gypsy and In The Heights. The opening sequence with The Lion King made me want to see it again.
The phone company swapped (that's their word) out my phone with a brand new phone that just came in from the manufacturer. We, or rather I after they did, tried every single function to make sure it works especially when I get home. Because of the inconvenience to me, they gave me one of those silicone cover for my phone. All that is left is to begin the process of inputting the few names and number into my contact list.
I didn't know that Pierce Brosnan is in the movie version of the Broadway show Mamma Mia.
My knees are better today. Yesterday my allergies caught up to me and I took some over-the-counter medication and it made by so drowsy that I slept through the night and didn't even hear the alarm clock ringing. I normally read on my one-hour subway ride to work but I couldn't keep my eyes open. I couldn't read during lunch and on the way home, I fell asleep and missed my train stop. I've been drinking water non-stop to flush out my system.

this and that
We had a fierce thunderstorm and lightening last night. The booms were so loud, it made my heart jump higher than it should.
Today we had rain that went from a drizzle, to gentle rain to a torrential downpour. This happened on my way home from the mall and the bus stop didn't have a shelter. Luckily there was a small restaurant nearby where we huddled waiting for the bus. At the mall I picked up tank tops for $10 dollars saving $7 from original price. Then I bought 2 pairs of pants where I saved $12 each. Not bad especially when I went to the mall looking for a laptop cooling pad.
I have to bring my new cell phone to the retailer store. Normally if you buy the phone on the Internet they want you to ship it back to them, but because the cell phone is less than 7 days old, I can bring it to the store. The problem is that it takes forever to come on and when it does, the sound is statically, and now it won't let me buy ring tones, something about the catalog is not available.
I rested the knees. I didn't do too much walking especially since it was raining and a bit on the humid side.

oh I forgot to tell you that I ate the mango and what a chore it was to peel and dice it. You were all right about that stubborn pit. All in all it was tasty mango. Oh and the juice, it was a good thing I had a towel around me or my shirt would not have made it.

saturday stuff
With all the walking/steps I've done this week, it was bound to happen. While I was walking, I heard the crackling of my knee. It hurt so much but still I pushed on and walked. I didn't walk as long as HN, but I made back home. I wrapped it up, put some heat and ice on the swelling and it appears to be somewhat better. What also feels sore are the soles of my feet. I bought one of those foot spa.
Last week I received two magazines, EW and Time, and did not recall subscribing to either magazines. Today a postcard came telling me because I had ordered my college directory, these magazines were sent to me on a trial basis. I have until August to cancel my subscription which I'll be doing.
I sold my latest quilted pillow.

another Friday
Today was a busy day. I had two projects to deliver which I did, rather early. Then I had a brief telephone conference call and then DR and I went to the Container Store to pick up baseball cubes for our autographed baseball. I had a dickens of a time trying to figure out how to open the cube.
I'm still working on the pictures from the Yankee tour. I hope to have it done by the weekend and I'll post the link to the site. I'm adding caption to it and I want to add the Yankees theme to it as well.
I got my new cell phone yesterday and darn if I couldn't get that battery in. No matter what way I did it, it wouldn't go in. This morning I left early and went to the Verizon store and watch the young lady just flip the battery inside the phone. It is just not fair.

coming down from my high
I'm still feeling the excitement of my Yankee tour. I'm working on putting the pictures up on my website so you can see the steps and sights that I saw while on the tour. You know that I'm shy so if you want to see pictures of me with Roy White and Bucky Dent, and a couple of other shots, let me know and I'll email them to you.
I tried to buy a baseball cube for the autographed ball. When I looked on the website, the price was $2.99 but when I went to the Yankees store, they wanted five dollars. Puleeze.
Brandy, I enjoyed Oblivious. It was a fun read and I really liked the heroine.

the tour
What a difference a thunderstorm makes in terms of the weather. Today was simply beautiful.
What a surprise it was when I received the book I ordered, SOS Marry Me by Melissa McClone. I turned the page and saw glaring at me in print, my name. How cool is that!
I just got back from the Yankee Stadium tour and I had a blast. I got plenty of pictures and I met and had my picture taken with Roy White and Bucky Dent. I got my baseball that they gave us signed by Bucky Dent. I got Yankee bubble gum. Then there was all the snacks: twizzlers, peanuts, cracker jack, M&M both plain and peanuts, pretzels and free beer and beverages. For our buffet dinner we were served hot dogs, barbecue chicken, corn on the cob, potato salad and beans. We also had cookies for dessert.

The power came back on around 7 this morning. The a/c is on but not at full speed. I bought a self-powered radio with light. Today the temp was 95. Tonight we're on a thunderstorm advisory or watch. It is suppose to hit us in 3 hours. We will definitely need that storm to cool the air quality.

Our complex had a blackout last night. I woke up at 1:30am to feeling a bit warm; not able to see the time on my clock radio when I realize that I had no power. Not even my night light was illuminating. All I can say is thank goodness for my battery-operated fan which was blowing gentle breezes in my space for the rest of the evening. I can also say thanks to my friend who bought me a lantern last year and the two battery-powered lights that I have in the living room and kitchen. The lantern had the brightest light so it traveled with me to the bathroom, the kitchen and the living room. Needless to say I couldn't watch TV or listen to the radio for the day's weather (note to me, buy a battery-powered radio). I do have a battery-powered TV, but didn't have the requisite 8 "D" batteries.
I'm also lucky that I live on the 10th floor so it wasn't a hardship to walk down the stairs and head to work way earlier than necessary because there was absolutely nothing to do in my place. I did run into one the maintenance guy who told me due to the heat, one of the turbines malfunctioned and thus the trickle effect.
All I know is that when I get home after 5pm...there better be electricity.
I'm now fighting a migraine. aaarrrggghhh

searing apple
is still heating up. Yesterday the high was 93 degrees but when you add haze and humidity, it feels like 100. Today the high was 96 but again with haze and humidity, it felt like 105.
I think the heat must have messes with the lines because we had problems accessing the Internet and Intranet at work. Needless to say I didn't get much work done.
Summer months means summer cable programs. Last night L&O: Criminal Intent had new episodes; then I got to watch In Plain Sight. Next month my two favorite shows return: The Closer and Burn Notice. I can't wait.
What a surprise I got in my e-mail today. I won an Amazon gift certificate from the contest on Judy Thomas' blog. Thanks Judy.
In trying to eat healthy, I bought a mango. How do you eat one of these?

scorched apple
Yesterday was 94 muggy degrees, two degrees short of the record set in 1925. Today will not be much better, a high of 95.
I cleaned out the filters on my air purifier (in living room) and the oxygen fan (in bedroom) and left them both running all day and all night long. I had opened the window and within 10 minutes my room felt sticky.
Yesterday while sitting near the ocean, I was thinking if someone was with me, I would have taken off my shoes and walked on the sand near the water line. Perhaps next time.
Why can't I find one of those mops where you wring it without touching water? I know they make them, but every store I visit does not have any of these mops. I really don't want to buy a mop online, but I may have to.
Now that amazon is charging taxes on books for our state, I will have to re-think how I make purchases from them. I ordered 4 books from B&N using my membership and my 15% coupon, free shipping if spend $25+ and next day delivery. I re-created the same exact order using amazon with free shipping and 3-5 day delivery and I would have spent an extra $4.00, which is a round-trip Metro card, for the same order and having to wait extra days. Amazon versus B&N...I believe B&N wins out. I will, however, use amazon especially if buying books if the books are not available on B&N. Also amazon sells other items through partnership where I paid taxes before, so that will not change.
I went out early to the bank and by the time I walked halfway home, I was drenched in sweat.
Since I'm indoors I:
went grocery shopping - needed milk and apple juice. Have you seen the prices of food?
did laundry - 4 machines and guess what? I folded the fitted sheet without the instructions woo hoo.
cleaned and sanitized the bathroom and kitchen.
finally finished converting all three websites to html coding and now I'm no longer publishing them using Frontpage. I already had a FTP program so it was all easy to upload to their respective hosting companies with little fuss and errors.
made a 12 inch square pillow. I have four more pillows (2 for me, 1 for Fran) to make before I start on my first attempt at a baby/crib quilt.
Steps taken today: 6,481 (humidity hampers walk)
The four squares comprises
the quilt block "Four Patch"
The quilt top, batting and backing
quilted and sewn for the pillow cover
The pillow is named Squares.

Baked Apple
I woke up way too early this morning and did some work on the website. I liked that I was able to work in my bedroom on my bed instead of in the living room.
I decided to take my stroll earlier due to the heat and humidity so at 6am, I walked and wasn't surprised to see others probably had the same idea. There was no ocean breeze so I expect the rest of the day to be stifling. I walked about 3 miles and then sat on a beach facing the ocean contemplating life. Life is good.
The a/c is up in my building complex, but it sure must be a high speed because I put it on low and I was freezing in my apartment.
I washed the terrace doors so now my view is sparkling clean. All this was done before 8:30am.
oh my battery died while I was in the middle of html coding and it went into hibernate mode. I was so upset because it was a complicated coding, but once I plugged in the adapter, I got it all back. whew
I got my new wireless mouse and I love it.

the day before the storm
You're probably wondering what storm is coming to the Big Apple. It's not a rain storm. Nor the evasive snow storm that we never got. It's the storm that I call the 3Hs. Hot, Hazy and Humid. I can not breathe when it gets dangerously high with humidity.
After searching for the past month, I finally found a battery-operated fan at Brookstone. The good thing is it uses only 3 AA batteries where the one I saw on amazon.com uses 8 C batteries. The also cute thing about this fan is it has an a/c power adapter.
Today the sole of my feet hurt like the dickens. I guess standing for 3+ hours really does affect you the next day if you're not use to it.
The Long and Short of It Review, will be relaunching their site this Monday, June 9. Stop by and check out the features that include author's spotlight, reviews, author interviews, free short stories and more. Also included is Whipped Cream for those who like heat with their romance stories. So don't forget to stop by. In fact, click on the above link and bookmark it. You know you want to.
Thanks everyone about my hand. I'll let you know what happens in two weeks.
Brandy, tell Chris if he does a lot of walking around, he'll be surprised at how many steps he takes on a daily basis.

a good day
Today was our department's turn for Community Partners Global Volunteer Day. We volunteered at God's Love We Deliver, where they prepared nutritious meals for people living with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other life-altering illnesses. Our group that went in the afternoon, worked in the kitchen. Because I should never, ever work with a knife, my task was to help wrap or package the desserts. Between a group of us, we wrapped 105+ brownies, put 150+ carrot cakes and 150+ apple strudel cakes in serving tins. After we finished that, we peeled a 50lb pound bag of carrots. After standing 3 hours doing these tasks, we felt good but tired.
Today I also received my packet for my upcoming tour of Yankee Stadium. Inside was information on the day that included our wristband the itinerary and what to expect. We're having a buffet dinner in the Sony Stadium Club, then a tour of the stadium and monument park and then an autograph session in the Yankee Club room.
Thanks everyone on the weight loss. It is a struggle but slow and steady is the best way for me because if I backslide, I know it won't be disastrous.
Brandy, yes the hand doctor is an orthopedic Surgeon and my appointment is in 2 weeks.
Fran, I look forward to the walk. Didn't we do that walk the last time I was there? I think I recall seeing the beavers.
Devon, I don't know how I feel about acunpuncture. All my brain sees is a whole bunch of needles sticking out my body and it's not a pretty picture.

a long day
what another busy day with work and then the doctor's. Finished another short-notice request; finalized a launch; and started work on another analysis.
The trains were messed up because what should have been a 35 minute train ride to the doctor's office, it took me an hour to get there. It was a good thing I left 30 minutes early so I was still on time. The doctor, however, was backed up, so I had to wait before he was able to see me.
The good news is my blood pressure is not has high as in the past and the bad news is he still doesn't like the EKG. As a result, I'm now on a different medication. With regards to the pain in my forearm, wrist and hand, I will be seeing a hand specialist, as soon as I see if he is under my medical insurance and when I make the appointment.
The other good news is that I'm slowly losing weight, not a lot to meet his needs, but enough to meet my needs. A weight loss is a weight loss no matter how small the number.

walking
What a busy day I had at the office. I didn't even have time for my daily blog reading.
I started my summer walk regime - Instead of riding all the way to the office in the morning, I get off at 34th Street and walk the rest of the way to 49th Street. That equates to three-quarters of a mile. This should definitely add steps to my daily count. I didn't do too much walking during the day because I had an immediate deadline on two projects due today and then had a luncheon.
Some notables:
Bo Diddley has died at 79
Kelsey Grammer had a mild heart attack
Last night I watched the new show on USA, In Plain Sight and I liked it. I also watched Million Dollar Password and Neil Patrick Harris could be my partner anytime.
Tomorrow I have my doctor's appointment to check the progress of my heart and the high blood pressure.

nice day and movies
I saw Indiana Jones 4 and loved it. You can tell that Indy has aged, but he plays to it very well. I walked out of the movie happy and humming the theme tune. I wonder if there are words for it.
What a beautiful day it is here. I spent most of the day outdoors. I love people-watching. Hearing the screams while the roller coaster takes that first dip; screams for those who decided to take a dip in the Atlantic Ocean; smiling faces as kids take that first lick of their soft-serve ice cream; groups playing beach volleyball; bathers laying on the sand taking advantage of the sun; seeing the faces of kids going on all the rides; everyone having a fun day due to the weather.
